Özet (Çeviri)

222 SUMMARY The Urdu language belongs to Hind-Arian Language family and is a combination of Indian Arabic, Persian and Turkish civilizations. At different times in history Urdu has been called Hindi, Hindvi, Hindos- tani, Raikhta and Urdu-e“ Mualla before it took its present name Urdu which is a Turkish word ”Ordu“ meaning ”Askar". Orginally it was from the mixture of different languages and dialects of Indo-Pakistan, but with the passage of time it was enriched and expanded by Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Portugese and English languages. With the advent of Muslim era it began to flourish rapidly especially in the Muslim Turkish period. First of all Amir Khusrao (1255- 1325) made an experiment of mixing Urdu with Persian in his verses and then in the southern part of India (Dekan) Urdu language and literature began to gain ground. Kuli Qutb Shah, Vali Dakani, Siraj and other poets gave some beautiful pieces of poetry to Urdu. The main subjects of their poetry included natural objects, rituals, locale and love passions. The golden period of Urdu poetryy started in Dehli and Lakhnou where great poets like Sauda, Mir Dard, Mir Taki, Mir Hasan, Mushafi, Aatish, Nasikh, Mir Anis, Mirza Ghalib and scores of others contributed a lot towards Urdu poetry. They used different genres like Masnavi, Qasida, Ghazal, Marsia etc. Main themes are love, religion, mysticism, ethics and sorrows of life. This classical period ends with the death of Amir Minai (1828-1900) and Dagh (1831-1905). The modern Urdu poetry started with the beginning of 20th century under the influence of British rule and the English language. The process of social, political and cultural changes took a definite direction after the failure of the War of Independence (1857). The pioneers like Syed Ahmed Khan, Mohammad Hussain Azad, Maulana Hali and Allama Shibli brought about a great change in the forms as well as subjects of Urdu poetry. ALlama Mohammad Iqbal is the culmination of this line of poets. This generation of poets repesented the ethical and spiritual values, naturalism, human happiness and worries, nationalism in their verses Then came a series of Modern Poets. Some of this have been mentioned in my thesis. All these poets have been incluenced by many modern literary movements of the West. Their themes comprise of passions like naturalism,223 independence, self reliance, freedom of thought, freedom of speech, unity, moral values, love of nature and beatiful objects of life and the like. All these subjects have been discussed, at length, in this thesis with reference to the leading poets of this period i.e. 1850-1900.
