SUMMARY INTERCESSION Intercession ( Şafaah ) is a concept whose root goes back to the depths of history and this concept has, also, a significant role in thelrfe of people. There are many reasons in emerging of this creed, such as that one can achieve God only by someone and that prayer can't reach Him when prayed, etc... Belief in intercession, which was present before Islam, would have influenced Islam in it's earlier form. Qur'an has dealt with the problem of intercession in all aspects and emphassied on it. Qur'an has started that the conception of intercession present in pre-lslamic period lead people to the paganism. In fact, Qur'an declares that its structure is alien to the intercession. In relating verses God permanently presents himself as a unique ruler and dominating. In the verses that God's permission is being mentioned as an exception, also the same emphasis has been sensed. There is by no means, any verses that speaks of the Holy Prophet's intercession in the here after. The main source of the belief in that the Holy Prophet will certainly, interced in the world to come is completely arising from Hadiths. Yet, there are many other hadiths that declare that there will be no any intercession by Prophet in the world to come. Then It's necessary to approach to this subject with this respect. Another issue which needs to be tackled is the claim that narrations about the intercession of the prophet are authentic and have a succession ( mutevatir ). But after our investigation we observed that these hadiths are not mutevatir but meşhur, a sub-branch of Ahad hadiths.It's a fact that a result of conflict between sects there could have been invention of hadith. The problem of intercession of the prophet had its portion from this matter. Both sides could have invented hadiths for themselves and against other. For example, sometimes we observe two distinct variants of the same hadith like: My intercession is for those who commits big sins and the other variant is: My intercession is not for those who commits big sins. While the former is taking place in the sources of the people of Sunnah ( Ahl-i Sunnah ), the latter is taking place in that of a Harici scholar's book. Understandings and beliefs concerning the intercession must be interrogated and the view of Qur'an has to be taken as a criteria. It o ught not to be true to speak of an issue with certainity which God didn't speak of it. Exactly in the Qur'an. To cleam that the prophet will intercede and sa^f his people in the world to come is to speak with certainly in a subject which God see it possible only with His permission, and accordingly this is not suitable for the slaves of God. i. e. us.
