Conversion from Caliphate to Directorate of Religious Affairs. The Caliphate took a very important place in the History of Islam. It, as a socio -political- religious institution, had survived until the establishment of Turkish Republic. In 1923, Turkish Republic has been set up as a secular state. In order to deal with the religious affairs, therefore, the Directorate Religious Affairs has been established that is connected to Premiership. The works that has been done on caliphate either limited to be political and ideological or comprise only religious and legal aspects of it. In this work, however, the Caliphate is studied from its setting up after the death of Prophet until the abolish ment of it on May 3.1924 and the establishment of Directorate of Religious Affairs. This dissertation consist of an introduction and three chapters. In this work, first hand sources, documents of archives and offical state papers periodicals, newspapers and other works on the subject is used. Ramazan Boyacıoğlu
