65 SUMMARY We find great use in a quick look at the novel about which much was said and which received mostly positive criticism. Adrien Sixte, an atheist philosopher, has a young but intelligent pupil named Robert Oreslou. Qreslou, who is the teacher of the yourgest son of a renown family, has a desire to put into practice his theoritical knowledge psychology on Charlotte de Jussat-Randon the young and beautiful daughter of the family and to be loved by her. He manages to do this and seduces her. The young girl who learns the truth after words poisons herself because of hopelesness and shame. Greslou, who is hold directly responsible for her death, refuses to defend himself. He gives to his master Sixte his diary in which he has been recording the happenings since his life in the castle. The brother of the victim, kont Andre" who knows everything, proves Greslou to be innocent confessing before the court all he knows. However after the trial he shots Greslou dead. Thus Greslou who causes Charlotte's death pays this by being shot by the brother of the victim. After reading the confessions of his pupil Sixte goes under a depression and begins to doubt his doctrines. In this way we encounter three dramas in the novel: drama of passion, drama of conscience and drama of idea. le Disciple is one of the most important works of Paul Bouf get. ît has managed to attract the attention of the reader both with its theme and style used by its auther. What is it that attracts the reader's attention so greatly? With a fluent and comprehensible language, the writer has dealt with the sense öf responsability of the philosopher and teacher, the effect created by the romantic works orl children and young generations (literary intoxication); finally the hereditary issues which directly affect people's lives in the future. ts a thinker or a writer always responsible for the results of his
