ÖZET |'U;/< " GRUP SUNUŞLARINDA ETKİLİLİK KAVRAMI \, Figen AÇIL Balıkesir Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Matematik Anabilim Dalı (Yüksek Lisans Tezi / Tez Danışmanı : Yrd. Doç. Dr. A. Sinan ÇEVİK) Balıkesir, 1999 Bu tez, G sonlu bir grup olmak üzere, G'nin bir V sunuşunun etkililiğini, bazı sonlu grup örnekleri üzerinde incelemektedir. Bu inceleme, geometrik (P sunuşu üzerinde üreteç resimlerinin tanımlanması ve bu resimler üzerinde n- Cockcroftluğa bakılması) ve homolojik (P sunuşunun Euler karakteristiğinin G grubunun alt sınırına eşit olup olmadığına bakılması) olmak üzere iki ayrı metod ile yapılmıştır. Bu yüksek lisans tezi dört bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölümde, yukarıda adı geçen iki metodun standart açıklamaları yapılıp, bunların örneklemeleri ve bilinen sonuçlan verilmiştir. İkinci bölümde bazı grup genişlemelerinin (yan-direkt, direkt ve serbest çarpım grupları) etkililiği homolojik olarak incelenmiş olup, etkililik için gerek ve yeter koşullar ispatlanıp, ilgili örnekler verilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde ise genel grafik çarpım grubu tanımlanıp, bu tür grubun özel durumları için geometrik metod ile etkililikleri gösterilmiş ve bu gösterimle ilgili örnekler verilmiştir. Son bölümde ise etkililikleri veya etkili olmadıkları bilinen bazı özel gruplar (Coxeter, D£m ve PSL(2,p)u) için temel teoremler, kaynaklar gösterilerek, verilmiştir.

ABSTRACT THE EFFICIENCY OF THE GROUP PRESENTATIONS Figen AÇIL Balıkesir University, Institute of Science, Department of Mathematics (M. Sc. Thesis / Supervisor : Yrd. Doç. Dr. A. Sinan ÇEVİK) Bahkesir-Turkey, 1999 Let G be a finite group and let V be a presentation for G. In this thesis it is examined that the efficiency of V over some finite group examples. In this work it has been used two different methods, namely geometric (which is defining pictures on T7 and checking the n-Cockcroft property on these pictures) and homological (which is the equality between the Euler characteristic of "P and the lower boundary ofG). This thesis contains four chapters. Chapter 1 covers the basic definitions and some standard explanations about the methods named as above and also gives some examples and known results on them. In Chapter 2, it is investigated that the efficiency on some group extensions, namely semi-direct product, direct product and free product of groups, by the homological way and then proved necessary and sufficient conditions on these groups to be efficient. End of this chapter is giving some related examples. Third chapter is defined the general graph product of groups and then, by taking some special cases on this type of product, it has been proved the necessary and sufficient conditions on these special types of groups to be p-Cockcroft. At the final part of this chapter there are giving some examples about the results in this chapter. In the last chapter, by pointing the related references, it has been giving some results on some special groups (Coxeter, D£m and PSL(2,p)n)) which their efficiency or inefficiency are known and proved by the homological way.
