Özet
TÜRKÇE ABSTRAKT Siyasal katılım, toplumsal ve siyasal yapının karmaşık ve heterojen yapısı içinde, 20. yy. da toplumsal bütünleşme ve toplumsal dengenin kurulması açısından önem kazanmaktadır. Batı demokrasilerinin çoğulcu ve özgür bir yapıya sahip olmalarında, işçi sınıfının siyasal katılımının büyük bir katkısı vardır. Tezin amacı, Aliağa'da Petkim işçilerinin siyasal katılımını belirleyen sosyolojik etmenler ve bağlamsal koşullar ile katılım düzeyini analiz etmektir. Bu bağlamda, Petkim'de çalışan (vardiyalı ve vardiyasız) 320 işçi ile anket yapılmıştır. Eğitim düzeyi ve endüstriyel deneyimi yüksek bir işçi grubu olan Petkim işçilerinin, ekonomik bilinç temelinde birlikte hareket etme yeteneğinin bulunduğunu, ancak işçilerin sınıfsal anlamda bir katılım veya siyasal bir eylemliliğe yönelmediği saptanmıştır. Bu durumun en önemli nedeni, 20 yy.daki teknolojik değişmelerin ve yönetim örgütlenmelerinin, işçi sınıfının iktidarsızlaşmasına yol açmasıdır. Bunun dışında, işçilerin siyasal alanda kendilerini gösterememesinin temelinde, işçi sınıfının, sınıf bilincine ulaşamaması etmeninin de önemli olduğu saptanmıştır. 156

ingilizce abstrakt Political participation is an important political phenomenon which gained its importance in the 20th century, coupled with the heterogeneous and complex structure of the social and political nature of the western societies. The working class in the western liberal democracies had a very significant role in terms of the development of pluralist political systems. The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the sociological factors, contextual conditions which shape the political participation of the workers as well as the level of participation among the workers. In this context, 320 workers at Petkim were interviewed by using the survey technique. It was found that the workers do not act collectively in the sense of being defined as a working class; yet, they are willing to be a part of the same group of people, when it comes to defending their economic interests. The major cause of having a conscioussness in terms of their interests is the ways in which technological changes and management organizations have led a situation of powerlessness among the working class people. Additionally, it was found that the low level of class conscioussness among the workers have hed to the low level of political participation among the workers interviewed for this study. 157
