This paper explores the case mix variables that have a predictive value for categorical outcome as a consecutive study to Warmerdam (2015) which was conducted with continuous outcome variable. The data was collected by Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM) from mental health care institutions in the Netherlands (n=37.191). The categorical dependent variable was built based on two criteria: pre-to-posttest change, and a threshold for the amount of that change. The categorization resulted in four categories of recovered, improved, unchanged and deteriorated. Then, the dependent variable was reformed into two binary dependent variables: one to contrast recovery over other outcomes lumped together, and the other to contrast improvement over the outcomes of unchanged and deteriorated. It was hypothesized that there are case mix variables that can significantly predict categorical outcome. The logistic regression analyses showed that pre-test score, level of functioning, socio-economic status, age and presence of certain primary diagnoses are significant predictors of the categorical outcome. Pre-test score is the most significant predictor of the categorical outcome, which is followed by level of functioning and age. The results generally are in accordance with the findings of Warmerdam's (2015).
