SUMMARY This research, in order to find out on what level the health education services, offered by the health center under the central districts of Ankara, are done according to people's desires and needs, in what methods they are carried out, who they aim for, whether or not the other institutions assist the health centers, what factors effect the success of the services and what should be done to improve the health education services, aims to reveal the opinions of the nurses and the midwives who have functions and responsibilities for the health education at the health centers. For this purpose, in Ankara and its central districts, 15 health centers out of 72 are chosen and the nurses and the midwives, who are employed at these health centers, are asked about their opinions concerning the health education services offered by the health centers. This research has indicated that the subjects included in the research regard the health centers as education centers, but due to the facts that educational activities aren't carried out in a planned way and some other problems such as lack of staff, materials and resources etc., the health education services can't be carried out as well as needed. 75
