187 SUMMARY The aim of this study is to determine the methods used by biology teachers in biology education and the problems they experience. Particularly, the position of the problems experienced by biology teachers in classic highschoois, Anatolia highschools and sciences highschoois are comparatively determined. In this study, the tool for gathering data is a questionnaire. The sample of the study consists of 40 biology teachers, who are elected by random sampling in classic highschoois, 20 biology teachers in Anatolia highschoois and 20 biology teachers in Science highschoois. In analysis of the data gathering by the questionnaire, chi square, arithmetic mean, point-biseriol correlation, frequency and percentage are used. Based on the result of the analysis of the data gathered by the questionnaire, it is noticed that biology teachers prefer to use the classic methods, such as, lecture method and catechetical method such more than active methods. If the problems encountered by biology teachers are categorized according to the type of highschoois, it is noticed that science highschoois are better than Anatolia highschoois and classic highschoois. In summary; biology teachers encounter many problems as they teach. The improvement of quality in education is a progress that does not only depend on teachers. Therefore, the improvement of quality in biology teaching can be obtained by solving of the problems encountered by biology teachers as much as quickly.
