Özet
Günümüz sermaye birikim süreci kentsel yapılı çevrenin üretiminde birincil kaynak olarak gördüğü kamusal mekanları ya doğrudan özelleştirerek ya da dolaylı ve daha çok görülen biçimiyle içeriğini boşaltarak, yeni kamusal mekan olma iddiasıyla kendi yeniden üretimine konu etmekte, bu durumu da ortaya çıkan kullanım türlerinin kamusal olduğu yönündeki manipülasyonla desteklemektedir. Alışveriş merkezleri, temalı parklar gibi giriş çıkışı kontrollü, kentsel mekanın simüle edildiği ve rasyonel işlemesi öngörülen bu tüketim mekanları nasıl oluyor da eş dost sohbetlerin yapıldığı, gazete dergilerin çıkarıldığı, toplumsal muhalefetin ve dayanışmanın yeri olan kahvehane, hamam, mesire yeri, mahalle veya kent meydanlarının özetle kamusal mekanların yerini alıyor?Bu bağlamda kamusal mekanın değişimini koşullayan dinamikler, kamusal mekanı tüketim süreçlerine konu eden mekan üretim pratiklerinde aranmıştır. Her toplumun kendi mekanını ürettiği savı kapitalist kentleşme örüntüleri içerisinde tasarlanarak soyutlaşan mekanı görmeyi mümkün kılmıştır. Dolayısıyla çalışmanın yaslandığı temel bağlam, mekan üretimi ve belirleyenlerini sermayenin yapılı çevre üretimiyle birlikte okuyan Marksist çerçevedir. Söz konusu çerçeve esas olacak biçimde tüketim ideolojisi yaklaşımı üzerinde durularak mekanın kapitalist sistemin ihtiyaçlarına göre araçsallaşmasının nasıl gerçekleştiği irdelenmiştir. Bursa kenti için önemli bir bellek, odak ve düğüm noktası olan eski Santral Garaj, yeni Kent Meydanı Alışveriş Merkezi alanı tanımlayıcı, betimsel bir yöntemle kurgulanan çalışmanın deneyimsel bağlamını oluşturmaktadır.Çalışmada, kamusal mekanın değişen anlamı üst siyasal belirlenim bağlamı gözetilerek sorgulanmış, değinilen alışveriş merkezi ve avlusunun, normatif olarak kabul edilen kamusal mekân kavramını karşılamadığı sonucuna varılmıştır.

Today?s capital accumulation process views public spaces as the primary source of the production of urban built environment and, with the claim of being the new public space, makes use of them for its own reproduction either via direct privatization or, more often than not, via indirect distortion of the meaning attached to them, and supports this case with the manipulation that the newly occurred sorts of the spatial usages are publicly oriented. How, then, do these consumption spaces with controlled entry and exit like shopping centers and theme parks which are supposed to run on rationally and through which the urban space is simulated take the place of public spaces like coffee houses, baths, recreation spots and district or city squares where kith and kin conversations take place, where papers and magazines are published and which are the centers for social solidarity and public opposition?Within this context, the dynamics conditioning the transformation of the public space have been sought through the public space production practices which subject the public space to the processes of consumption. The pretention that every society produces its own space has made it possible to apprehend the space which, being designed within the capitalist urbanization patterns, has become abstract. Accordingly, the base context that the study depends on is composed of the Marxist theory which makes it possible to understand the production of space and its determinants together within the build environment production of capital. Taking the Marxist view as the base and laying emphasis on consumerism, how the instrumentalization of space is realized in line with the needs of capitalist system has been scrutinized. A prominent point of past memories, a node and a landmark for the city of Bursa, the old Central Garage and new City Square Shopping Centre sphere constitutes the experimental context of the study which has been shaped with a definitive and descriptive method.Throughout the study, taking into consideration the context of upper political determination, the changing meaning of the public sphere has been examined and it has been concluded that the above mentioned shopping centre with its court-yard does not fit to the normatively accepted public space concept.
