SUMMARY Socio-cul tural environment we are living in tend to restrict, by means of formal and informal norms, some of the second behaviour and actions whilst banning some others. Some members of the community fail to abide by these bans from the to time and commit sexual crimes. We are of the opinion that the issue should not be studied only in terms of psychological reasons for the sake of complete wess of the studies. Therefore, we have adapted in our study the thaught that sexual crimes might also be an out come of socio- cul tural structure. Thus the subject of sexual crime and criminals that has been so far dealt with only in terms of legal and psychological considerations is now included in a field work relating to socio-cultural aspects of the issue. The results of our reseaches carried out in Ankara closed Prison have revealed to a great extent the social and cultural characteristics of sexual criminals, namely arid commonly, their being grawn up in similar hard living conditions, without receiving proper education, and oppurtunity of having a girl friend or sweetheart under the social pressure etc, and this emphisizing the importance of studying, socio-cultural aspects of the issue. 166
