ECOLOGICAL URBANIZATION POLICIES PROPOSAL FOR PH.D THESIS TO BE SUBMITTED TO UNIVERSITY OF ANKARA, DEPERTMANT OF URBAN and ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES: ( A brief translation from Turkish to English by Semih Eryıldız) Advisor: Prof. Dr. Ruşen Keleş 1 -NAME: Ecological Urbanization Policies. 2-SUBJECTAs to research new ways of human living,housing, production, and transportation,in order to reduce the environmental pollution and exhaustion of earth resource and energies. 3-v4/A/:ECO-LOGICAL research,proposal and implications are gaming an important role worldwide,especially in Nordic countries,though the urgent need is in southern hemisphere. These works should be transfered to severe realities of rapidly urbanizing countries needs. AJso,these works should change form,from small scaled, individual experiments to socio political full scale urban policies.In order to fulfill these aims this research iterate existing ecological urbanization implications in a systematical approach. A-IMPORTANCE: The main subject of Urban and Ecologyy studies can be considered as energy and sources consumption and pollution arising out of urbanization. Proposals such as hindering development or sloping rising world population increase or urbanization are not consideredto be either desirable or realistic in this thesis.Also as far as ecological studies concerned it is not useful just tocollect statistical data of coming pollution,ozon,or nuclear disaster figures.or just to thoeratize unrealistic hinderance theories. Instead; a better approach would be to concantrate on the essence of the working processes and cycles of so called problem creating mechanizms of human living,and urbanization to convert the T. r.C. YUKSEKOW1M ngucreative inner mechanizms and flows to use to create energy and useful material. The solution of a problem lies under the inside of it. If the creator of ecological problems is urbanization, then some other ways or means or organization diferences of urbanization is to solve this problems. Each sourc of problem.can be studied primarly on its inner dynamics. A problem can be used as tools of the solution. 5-HYPOTHESESES: A-Pioner research and implication projects,due on their scale and due to heavy concentration on nordic world are good only to understand the immediate threads of coining problems and some hints on solutions but they are no good for radical results; General meetings.shows, and conversations like Rio summit,Protest groups like Green Peace green parties, publication,education5 propoganda,demonstrations,numeric and academic studies of energy pitfalls,exhaustion of resources has only symbolic values up to the time praciical.worldwide accepted,set of applicable theories, and proposals of solutions yet to be developed. B-Existing urban and environmental studies should be reexamined and converted to full scale needs and necessities of urbanizing masses of southern countries;Living,nutration,working and spare time activities of human beings should be reconsidered reexamined and reshaped withall paradigmas or preconcieved ideas of disposal,waste, cultivation work,smell and contort definitions. Production and trade world should change principles of productivity excluding natural resource costs and they should be forced to include in their 202
