Alanya is located in the Mediterranean Geographical Region, within the boundries of the Province of1 Antalya, and east of the bay which gulf the same name. Alanya is under the influence o-F the rapid urbanisation our country has been going through. However, one aspect of urbanisation in Alanya is that Alanya' s economy was largely based on agriculture until the 1970' s and the urban texture was retained accordingly» Since the 1970' s the all the characteristics o-F the town have changed under the in-fluence o-f tourism» Agricultural activities have receded and been replaced by the phenomenon of tourism, wich thus resulted in a change in the texture o-F the city. In this study, the interactions o-F urbaniza tion and tourism in Alanya a.re explored and the outcome is based on the -Fundamentals o-F physical geography» The climatic and geomorphological features of Alanya have provided the process of urbanization and tourism with agreeable conditions. The rich historical heritage of the region as well as cultural and folklor ic characteristics have affected tourism favorably. The phenomenon of rapid urbanisation under the influence of tourism has brought some problems along in Alanya. These problems are primarily the problems caused by the fact that, the city is situated on the coastral plain, the problems caused by unplanned urbani zation, destruction of historical sites, and an inappropriate and deficient evaluation of the present touristic potentials»
