This thesis, wudch treats Platonic theory of knowledge, analyses Plato's fa mous Recollection Argument, a metaphorical expression of the thesis that the knowledge is a priori in the sense of not depending on sense-experience, in its first part. It also shows that the basic elements thet help Plato in reaching to this conclusion were the philosophical discussions of Socrates which aimed to re ach essential definitions in the field of ethics and Plato's keen observations on the contemporary mathematics. In its second part, on the basis of Plato's distinction between doxa and epis- teme or between emprical knowledge and a priori knowledge, it analyses the Si mile of Sun, The Analogy of The Divided Line and The Allegory of The Cave and points out to difference between the mathematics and philosophy with res pect to their status and their methods and then shows the reflections of this con ception of knowledge in the field of ethics and education and gives his classifi cation of sciences. In its third part, it points out to the logical consequence of his conception of Ideas as pure, simple, separate, isolated and indivisible individual substan ces in the middle period, and then snows that this consequence necessitates a change in the theory of Ideas.
