A study on tbn Suhayd and His Literary Personality This study is on one of the greatest literaryman who was brought up in Andalus Ahmed b. Abdülmelik b. Suhayd. In this study we have handled his autobiography, his literary personality and his works and have completed our study in four parts including Introduction chapter. When we evaluate Ibn Suhayd, we have appreciated his time and his po litical, social and cultural structures of his society. This idea in mind, we have reflected the development in political activities, socio-economic and cultural e- vents in Endülüs from its conquest to Ibn Suhayd era ( IV/X th centuries ). In this chapter we have specially dealt with his literary personalty and we have al so tried to explain the development of Endulus Arabic poetrys and prose of the time In the first chapter of my thesis we have examined Suhayd's life story. Star ting from his birth through his childhood and adolescent period we also have tried to enlighter his family life.Then we have searched his relations with the kings who ruled Endülüs and with his enemies and friends and we have also searched his duties in government and his last days of his life and his deathJVt the and of this chapter we have carefully tried to observe his personalty, his caracterizotion, and his pscychological position. The second chapter, in which we have handled Ibn Suhayd's literary per sonalty, is the focus of my thesis. In this chapter we have both expressed Ibn Suhayd 's prose and poetry studies (works) by giving examples and we also have tried to show this important role on criticism as a critic. When we explained his prose and poetry, we have reflected that he was influenced by the poets of Cahiliye, Ummayds and Abbaslds. We have also tried to examine his thoughts as a literary critic. In the third chapter, after lndroducing his works in general, we have tried to explain his important work "Risakti at-tawabi wa'z-zawdbt' in which he goes to an imaginary voyage to genie world, and which supports him to take place in the world literature. After explaining the lively scenes in this work, We have tried to determine the origin of this sources that inspired him to write this materpiece. Lastly we have tried to search his successors who wrote under the same basis and we mainly examined Suhayd's influence on these literary writers from both the East and the Western Continents.
