Purpose: This allows the development of an environmentally friendly hybrid process that enables the production of boric acid (H3BO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) via an electromembrane process that does not involve any reagents and produces liquid waste. Method: This efficient bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BMED) process aims to simultaneously produce acid and base from synthetic solutions containing boric acid and salt, thereby separating the salts. For optimization, five key parameters were determined: initial salt temperature, acid and base concentrations, applied current, and flow rate, and each parameter was systematically tested within a four-stage Taguchi L16 orthogonal experimental design. The experimental results were analyzed for the distribution of performance criteria such as product yield, salt conversion rate, current efficiency, energy consumption, and product safety. To determine the optimum conditions, the obtained performance data were evaluated using the Taguchi method, using the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques TOPSIS and MOORA. Findings: Bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BMED) process aimed to configure boric acid and simultaneous acid-base production. Five parameters (initial salt-H₃BO₃ temperature, current density, flow rate, initial acid-base zones, and electrolyte temperatures) were tested over several years using the Taguchi experimental design and conditioned at 16 different four-terminal conditions. The obtained results were evaluated based on performance criteria (boric acid yield, salt consumption, current efficiency, energy consumption, and product purity), and variance analysis was used to determine the parameter values. The analyses showed that the initial salt temperature and applied current had an impact on system performance. While increasing the flow rate had positive effects on the process, the effect of electrolyte strength was limited. The most suitable parameter screening was determined using multi-criteria decision-making methods (TOPSIS and MOORA) and supported by experiments. The boric acid crystallization process was investigated in terms of mixing conditions and the ionic composition of the solution; with 98.6% salt removal achieved by BMED, product purity was increased to 99% and above. The study results demonstrate that the BMED process is an energy-efficient, high-performance, and optimized method for recovering boric acid and producing acid-base. Results: This study demonstrates that boric acid and sodium hydroxide can be produced simultaneously and at high efficiency by developing an advanced process that minimizes both waste and valuations. This process offers an approach compatible with sustainable production goals, including both the recovery of valuable chemicals and the reduction of industrial waste growth.
