This thesis presents an inverse spectral Chebyshev–compressed sensing (ISC–CS) framework for full-field reconstruction of structural response fields from sparse and noisy strain and displacement measurements. The approach exploits the intrinsic sparsity of mechanical fields in a Chebyshev spectral basis and enforces governing equilibrium constraints directly in spectral coefficient space, enabling robust inversion without requiring prior knowledge of external loads. A theory-guided sparsity selection strategy based on Bernstein-type analyticity arguments is developed, linking spectral coefficient decay to measurement noise levels and providing conservative, physics-informed sparsity bounds. These theoretical insights are supported by a dedicated numerical study using a forward spectral Chebyshev (SC) method to characterize the decay behavior of spectral coefficients. The analysis quantifies effective sparsity levels for displacement, curvature, and shear strain fields and demonstrates their suitability for compressed sensing–based reconstruction despite the presence of spatial derivatives. The proposed framework is validated through numerical case studies on representative beam and plate models, demonstrating accurate recovery of displacement, rotation, curvature, and shear strain fields using significantly fewer sensors than degrees of freedom. Across all examples, reconstruction errors remain low even in the presence of additive Gaussian noise, highlighting the robustness, noise tolerance, and scalability of the ISC–CS framework. Overall, the results establish the proposed method as a viable alternative to conventional inverse finite element approaches for shape sensing and structural health monitoring
