47 6. ÖZET Köpeklerde Oral Megestrol Asetatın Proöstrus-Östrus Semptomlanna ve Genital Organ Enfeksiyonlarına Etkisi Sunulan çalışmada, erken proöstrüs döneminde oral megestrol acetatın köpeklerde proöstrüs-östrüs semptomlarına, sürelerine ve uygulamanın genital kanal enfeksiyonları ile meme bezi üzerine etkisinin araştırılması amaçlandı. Çalışmada materyal olarak değişik yaş ve ırka ait toplam 30 köpek kullanıldı. Bunlardan 10 adedi kontrol, 20 adedi ise uygulama olmak üzere iki gruba ayrıldı. Kontrol grubuna ait köpeklerin proöstrüs kanama süresi ile inter-östrüs aralıkları, meme bezi ve genital kanal enfeksiyonları açısından çalışma süresince izlendi. Uygulama grubuna ait olan köpeklere proöstrüs kanamasının ilk 3 günü içinde başlamak üzere günlük 2. 2 mg /kg canlı ağırlık hesabı ile oral megestrol acetat 8 gün uygulandı. Uygulama grubuna ait köpeklerde de kontrol grubunda izlenen parametreler değerlendirildi. Uygulama grubunda megestrol acetat uygulaması proöstrüs kanamasının 2-8 gün içinde durdurduğu (ortalam 4 gün), kontrol grubunda ise klinik olarak izlenebilen proöstrüs kanaması 7-18 gün arasında değişirken ortalama 11.3 gün sürdü. Kontrol grubunda interöstrüs süreleri 166 - 288 gün arasında değişken, ortalama 223.7 gün olarak belirlendi. Uygulama grubunda 3 köpekte interöstrüs süresi 33-45 gün arasında değişirken; diğer köpeklerin interöstrüs aralıkları 112-270 gün arasında (ortalama 169 gün) bulundu. Kontrol grubunda klinik genital kanal enfeksiyonu gözlenmezken, uygulama grubunda %25 oranında (5 hayvanda ) E.coli ve S. aureus etkenlerinin neden olduğu pyometra-endometritis olguları ile karşı karşıya kalındı. Kontrol grubunda meme bezi büyümesi ve hayali gebelik oranı %20, deney grubunda ise %45 olarak belirlendi. Ayrıca uygulama grubunda belirgin kilo artışı ve davranış değişimleri gözlendi. Sonuç olarak; megestrol acetat uygulamalarının proöstrüs ve östrüs sürelerini kısaltması ve semptomlarını ortadan kaldırmada etkili; klinik genital enfeksiyonlara yol açması ve meme bezindeki hipertrofik etkilerinden dolayı yaşlı ve son doğum - hormon uygulama aralığı uzun olan köpeklerde yan etkilerinin de olabileceği göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır.

SUMMARY Effect of Oral Megestrol Acetate on Proestrus-Estrus Symptoms and Genital Infection in the Bitch In the present study, it was aimed to determine the effects of orally administreted Megestrol acetate in the early proestrus period on the length and the strenght of the proestrus-estrus symptoms and the side effects of the treatment on genital track and mammary glands. Thirty dogs on different ages and species were used as the material. The dogs were groupped as the control (n=10) and the study groups (n= 20). Dogs in the control group were searched for the duration of the proestrus and the inter-estrus durations, genital tract and the mammary glands through the study. In the study group, dogs were given Megestrol acetate (2.2. mg/kg) orally initiated on the first three days of the proestrus bleeding and they were also searched for the parameters stated for the control group above. In the study group, Megestrol acetate administration ended the proestrus bleeding in 2-8 days (mean 4 days), however the duration of the proestrus bleeding continued for 7-18 days in the control group. The inter-estrus durations were recorded as 223.7 days (range from 166-288 days) in controls, while the same period was recorded 33-45 days in 3 dogs and 169 days (range from 112-270 days) in the other dogs of the study group. There were no evidence of the genital tract infections in the controls, however in the 5 dogs of the study group (%25) pyometer- endometritis caused by E. coli and S. aureus were observed. As a result, it was evident that the megestrol acetate administration were efficient in the shortining of the proestrus and oestrus durations and depressing the clinical symptoms of the proestrus-estrus, however it is not recommended in the old dogs and the dogs whose birth-hormone therapy duration is prolonged since the megestrol acetate cause genital tract infections and mammary gland hypertrophies.
