Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı, Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi ve Gazi Üniversitesi 'nde okuyan son sınıf matematik eğitimi öğrencilerinin matematiğin doğası ve öğretimi ile ilgili inançlarını araştırmaktır. Araştırma, Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (40) ve Gazi Üniversitesi 'nde (39) okuyan 79 son sınıf matematik eğitimi öğrencisiyle yürütülmüştür. Bu araştırma için iki ölçme aracı kullanılmıştır: 1. Matematiğin Doğası İle İlgili İnançlar Ölçeği. 2. Matematiğin Öğretimi İle İlgili İnançlar Ölçeği. Bu araçların geçerlilik ve güvenilirlik çalışmaları yapılmıştır.Bu çalışma, bir kesitlemesine izleme (cross-sectional survey) araştırmasıdır. Bu çalışmanın hipotezleri 0.05 anlamlılık düzeyinde t-testi ve Pearson korelasyonu kullanılarak test edilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonuçlan şunları göstermiştir: 1. Matematiğin doğası ve öğretimi ile ilgili inançları açısından Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi ve Gazi Üniversitesinde okuyan hizmet öncesi matematik öğretmenlerinin ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark bulunmaktadır. 2. Matematiğin doğası ve öğretimi ile ilgili inançları açısından kızlarla erkeklerin ortalamaları arasında istatistiksel alarak anlamlı bir fark yoktur. 3. ODTÜ ve Gazi Üniversitesinde okuyan hizmet öncesi matematik öğretmenlerinin matematiğin doğası ile ilgili inançlarıyla matematiğin öğretimi ile ilgili inançları arasında anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmaktadır.

The purpose of this study was to investigate beliefs of preservice mathematics teachers enrolled at the Mathematics Teacher Education Programs" at the Middle East Technical University and The Gazi University about the nature of mathematics and the teaching of mathematics. The research was conducted on 79 fourth year students enrolled at the Mathematics Teacher Education programs at the METU (40) and the Gazi University (39). Two measuring instruments were utilized: 1. Beliefs about the Nature of Mathematics Scale (BaNoM); 2. Beliefs about the Teaching of Mathematics Scale iii(BaToM). They were developed by the researcher. The validity and reliability of these scales were tested. The design of the present study is a cross-sectional survey. The hypotheses of the present study were tested by using t-test or Pearson correlation at the significance level 0.05. The results of the study indicated that: 1. There is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of preservice mathematics teachers at METU and those at Gazi University in terms of beliefs about the nature of mathematics and the teaching of mathematics; 2. There is no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of girls and boys in terms of beliefs about the nature of mathematics and the teaching of mathematics; 3. There is a statistically significant relationship between beliefs of preservice mathematics teachers about the nature of mathematics and about the teaching of mathematics.
