Özet
Sanat kavramı, her dönemde değişimler sergileyebilen dinamik bir toplumsal etkinliği ifade etmektedir. Bu nedenle sanat tarihi birçok farklı akım ve sanat dallarını içinde barındırmaktadır. Mekanik sanat çağından elektronik sanat çağına geçiş süreci de aynı dinamizmin sergilendiği bir toplumsal dönüşümü ifade etmektedir. Yani sanat alanında yaşanan bu değişimin nedenleri sadece teknolojik değil, aynı zamanda toplumsal bir gelişmeyi de sergilemektedir. Elektronik sanat çağına geçişle birlikte, mekanik sanat çağında önemli bir yer tutan zanaat kavramının da değişime uğradığı gözlenmektedir. Sanat ve sanatçı için zanaat ediminin rolü gitgide azalmış ve sanatta zihinsellik olgusu önemli bir konum kazanmıştır. Bunun temelinde ise elektronik ortamların zanaat edimine hemen hemen hiç ihtiyaç duymamaları yatmaktadır. Ayrıca, elektronik sanat çağında ortaya çıkan kitle iletişim kültürü, sanat eserlerinin sadece üretim süreçlerinin değil, aynı zamanda sunum, çoğaltım ve tüketim süreçlerinin de değişime uğramasına neden olmuştur.Ill Yaşanan bu değişimlerin tam ortasında kalan, yani mekanik çağ sanatından elektronik çağ sanatına geçiş süreci içinde bulunan video sanatı da yaşanan bu değişimlerde önemli bir rol üstlenmiştir. Video sanatı, bir yandan elektronik teknolojisinin bir sanat ortamı olarak kullanılmasının ilk örneklerini sergilemekte, diğer yandan da yaşanan sanatsal değişimlere zemin hazırlamaktadır. Bu nedenle, video sanatı mekanik çağ sanatı ile elektronik çağ sanatı arasında bir köprü görevi üstlenerek önemli bir işlevi yerine getirmektedir.

The concept of art refers to a social activity which can display changes in every period of time. Therefore, the history of art contains various art styles and moments. The process of moving from the era of mechanic art to the era of electronic art refers to a similar social transformation which is displayed by the same dynamic structure. The reason behind these changes in the field of art is not only technological, but also social. As a result of the transition into the era of electronic art, the concept of craft which used to have an important position in the era of mechanical art, started to change, too. The role of craft performance in art began to diminish gradually and the concept of intellectuality rose to a higher status. The reason for this is that in electronic environments there is nearly no need for craft performance. Besides, as a result of the mass communication culture which was formed in the era of electronic art, the process of presentation, reproduction and consumption began to change in addition to the change in the process of production. Video art, which happens to take place in the middle of the transition from the era of mechanical art to the era electronic art, has an important role in all these changes. On one hand video art displays the first examples of the application of electronic technology in art and on the other hand it establishes a better environment for changes in art. Therefore, video art has an important function as it acts like a bridge in between the art of mechanic and electronic eras.
