Özet
XII ÖZET Denizli'deki ilkokullardan belirlenen dokuz yaş grubuna dahil (25) öğrencinin İngilizce öğrenirken okuma, dinleme ve konuşma becerilerini geliştirmek amacıyla dokuz ay süren bir çalışma yapılmış ve bu çalışma sırasında öğrencilerde, yukarıda bahsedilen becerilerin gelişimi, haftada on iki ders saati ile dokuz ay süreyle gözlenmiştir. Bu çalışma, dokuz yaşındaki öğrencilere İngilizce öğretirken şarkı, oyun ve masal gibi eğlenceli materyallerin kullanılması önemi üzerinde durmuştur. Birinci bölümde, çocuklarda öğrenme süreci, dil gelişimi ve dil edinimi ile dil öğrenme arasındaki karşılaştırma tartışılmıştır. İkinci bölümde, öğretim metotları, öğretim teknikleri ve bunların öğrencilerin başarısı üzerindeki etkisi üzerinde durulmuştur. Çalışmanın sonunda öğrenciler, haftada on iki ders saati İngilizce öğretilen aynı yaş grubu öğrencilerle ve haftada yirmi dört ders saati İngilizce öğretilen onaltı yaş grubu öğrencilerle karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu karşılaştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar, çalışma grubu öğrencilerinin başarılı olduğunu göstermiştir. Çalışmanın Türkçe olarak yazılmasıyla ilköğretim okullarındaki öğretmenlerin bu çalışmayı okuyarak faydalanabilmeleri amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada kullanılan teknik ve yöntemlerle elde edilen sonuçların ileride yapılacak çalışmalara ve okullarda İngilizce öğreten öğretmenlere ışık tutacağı umulmuştur.

XIII ABSTRACT This study was carried out to determine the effectiveness of entertaining teaching materials such as songs, games, and stories, on the children's developing their reading, listening and speaking skills. The twenty-five pupils involved in this study group were from primary schools in Denizli and their age was nine-eleven. It took nine months to finish the study. During the study, the progress in the children* skills mentioned above were observed This study puts emphasis on the use of entertaining teaching materials such as songs, games and stories in teaching English to the pupils at the age of nine-eleven. At the end of the study, the students were compared with the pupils at the same age who were taught English eleven times a week and the pupils at the age of sixteen who were taught English twenty four times a week. The results of this comparison reflected the intended success of the pupils in the study group. Chapter I includes the discussion of the children's learning process, their language development, and the comparison of language acquisition and language learning. Chapter II discusses the teaching methods, techniques and their effects on the pupils' success. The results which were obtained by using the methods and techniques in the study can shed light upon the future studies concerning the teaching of English to young learners in our country and the methods and techniques suggested in this study can help the teachers solve their problems in their leaching experience to some degree.
