Özet (Çeviri)

ABSTRACT Various data sources, data acquisition systems and methods have been used for establishment of geographic information systems, at present. On the other hand, according to the scale, purpose and expectations from GIS data bases, defining and using the most suitable methods has a great importance. Requirements for updated, upgraded, accurate and reliable digital data in computer supported digital map production and revision and consequently in setting up of GIS have been growing up day by day. In this study, various data sources, data acquisition systems and methods which are suitable and useable for establishment of GIS data base at 1/ 25 000 scale have been searched. From that point, existing data acquisition systems such as; analogue, semi-analytical, analytical and digital photogrammetric stereo plotters; digital image processing systems; PC and UNIX- based digitisers and workstations; cartographic, geodetic and topographic data acquisition systems; precision photo and map scanners; various output devices, plotters and printers; photogrammetric aerial cameras and all data obtained from these instruments have been examined in view of data acquisition possibilities and capabilities. Following data sources which are existing; aerial photographs, SPOT and LANDSAT satellite images, printed map sheets, revised transparent map plates, topographical data and existing digital data, orthophoto images and maps, photo-mosaics, digital terrain models (DTMs), some other materials and documents which are used to collect attributes have been used in applications for this study. Also, these data sources have been examined from the point of performance, suitability level and accuracy in GIS data base establishment at 1/ 25 000 scale. For that purpose, two separate project areas have been selected. 380 definable feature points in Çeşme project area, 395 feature points in Ayvalık project area have been determined. Three dimensional coordinates (X,Y,Z) of those points have been measured by using different data collection methods mentioned above. Measurement by analytical instrument using aerial photographs have been assumed as error-free and accurate, all other measurement results have been compared with them. According to the obtained results from carried out applications, it has been realised that SPOT, LANDSAT and other satellite images and satellite sensor data can not be used in establishment of GIS data base at the scale of 1/ 25 000 or larger. Additionally, ratherly critical results have been obtained by formerly produced printed maps and printed other materials, that means printed maps should be considered as the last source among the existing data sources. Other data sources except above mentioned which are used directly or indirectly data acquisition systems and methods can also be evaluated as suitable for the purpose. The most suitable way to get the most accurate, updated and precise results is acquisition of data from (current) aerial photographs using stereo photogrammetric instruments and ways or directly from ground surveying. Also, those methods should be supported with especially cartographical data acquisition methods and so, without depending on a uniquely definite way, combined methods and ways may be applied in order to get the best results.
