11 AN ERGONOMIC APPROACH TO THE SMALL AND MEDIUM SIZED ENTERPRISES IN METAL WORKFIELD ENVIRONMENTAL DIMENSION IN THE PROCESS OF PARTICIPATION TO EUROPEAN UNION. (Ph.D. Thesis) Sennet BAŞARAN GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ABSTRACT Joining of Turkey with the Customs Union, the requirements as to obey and implement certain rules in respect to production have turned out to be an important question. From this point of view, the Customs Union is affecting the small and medium sized enterprises because, approximately one- third of the total population, 99 pencent of the total amount of business enterprise, and (76.7) percent of the employment constitute the small and medium sized enterprises. For the health and safety of the workers, for the productivity of the quality of the work, the work place have to be examined from the ergonomic point of view ?which is the main subject of the study the important factors of work place such as noise, climate, illumination are searched in literature and observed in diffent work places. Necessary rules and regulations related to physicial environment have already been determined and necessary information and proposels are given.
