Özet (Çeviri)

After the termination of Hittitc authority over north Syria and southeast Anatolia in the 12th century BC, local socio-economic systems contributed to the rapid consolidation of power in the form of a scries of independent but interconnected polities. These are commonly referred to as Neo-Hittite citystates. Through an economic outlook, this work examines the relationships between economic growth, culture, and politics in several early Iron Age polities and their ruling elites. The framework of this study consists of a synthesis of investigations on collapse and regeneration of sociopolitical systems, state formation, social differentiation, elite cultures, political competition, kingship, and strategies of power. Through seeking connections between material culture and social structures, this investigation examines archaeological remains and textual sources together from such sites as Carchemish, Malatya, and Karatepe to determine regional patterns that show continuity and innovation in elites' manipulation and construction of culture as a mechanism for maintaining power. Monuments located in strategic locations in the rural landscape provide insight into elite strategies of territorial expansion. Inscriptions and artistic representations in major rcgional centers highlight the great significance that ritual and ceremony held in systems of political control and social differentiation. This study shows that while cultures of polities differed from one another, strategies that the ruling elites used to establish and ma.intain pöwer were commonly shared.
