Dr. M.Yaşar ÖZDEN Ortak Tez Danışmanı: Doç. Dr. Ömer GEBAN Eylül 1998, 132 sayfa Bu çalışmanın amaçları : lise öğrencilerinde hücre bölünmesi ünitesi ile ilgili kavram yanılgılarını belirlemek ve 9. Sınıf öğrencilerinin hücre bölünmesi ünitesindeki kavram yanılgılarını gidermede kavramsal değişim metinleri ile verilen kavram haritalarının etkisini araştırmaktır. Diğer yandan, kavram haritasi kullanılan grubun kavram haritası kullanmaya yönelik tutumlarını incelemektir. Bu çalışmanın ömeklemini ODTÜ Kolejinde aynı öğretmenin iki ayrı sınıfındaki 53 lise birinci sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Çalişma 1998 yılı sonbahar döneminde uygulanmıştır.Bu çalışmada Biyoloji Başarı Testini oluşturmak için hücre bölünmesi ünitesindeki kavramlar hakkında 10. Sınıf öğrencilerinden 10 öğrenci ile mülakat yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmada dört hafta boyunca hücre bölünmesi ünitesi, deney grubunda normal ders işleyişiyle birlikte kavram haritası ve kavramsal değişim metinleriyle ve kontrol grubunda ise geleneksel ders metodu ile öğretilmiştir. Hücre bölünmesi ünitesi ile ilgili kavramsal anlama her iki gruba da uygulanan ön test son test Biyoloji Başarı Testi ile ölçülmüştür. Deney grubu öğrencilerinin kavram haritasının biyoloji dersinde uygulanmasına yönelik tutumlarını ölçmek için Kavram Haritası Tutum ölçeği ön test ve son test olarak uygulanmıştır. Sonuçlar deney grubunun kavramsal anlamada kontrol grubundan daha başarılı olduğunu göstermiştir. Kavram Haritası Tutum Ölçeği ön test ve son test sonuçlarına göre uygulanan t-test analizi, deney grubunun biyoloji dersinde kavram haritası ugulanması konusunda olumlu tutuma sahip olduklarını göstermiştir. Diğer yandan, deney grubunun biyoloji başarısı ile kavram haritası kullanmaya karşı tutumları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur.

Prof. Dr. Ömer GEBAN September 1998, 132 pages The aims of this study were to identify the high school students' misconceptions related to cell division unit and, to investigate the effects of conceptual change texts accompanied with concept mapping on remediation of misconceptions on cell division unit of ninth grade high school students. Also, the relationship between the students' biology achievement and their attitudes toward utilization of concept mapping was investigated. The subjects of this study consisted of 53 ninth grade students from two classes of the same teacher in METU College. This research was performed in the fall semester in 1997. mIn this study, 10 students from the 10th grade were interviewed about the cell division unit concepts in order to collect qualitative data on which Biology Achievement Test was constructed. During the treatment, the experimental group was taught with conceptual change texts accompanied with concept mapping through regular class instruction and the control group was taught with the traditional instructional method concerning cell division unit for a period of four weeks. Biology Achievement Test was administered in both groups as a pre and post-test to measure the conceptual understanding of cell division concepts. Concept Map Attitude Scale was administered to experimental group as a pre and post-test to measure the students' attitudes toward the concept mapping instruction itself in their biology course. The results indicated that experimental group achieved significantly better than the control group with respect to conceptual understanding in cell division unit, t-test analysis of pre-post test mean scores of Concept Map Attitude Scale indicated that experimental group had a positive attitude toward the utilization of concept mapping in their biology course. Nevertheless, significant positive relationship was found between students' achievement and their attitudes toward the utilization of concept map in the experimental group.
