Özet (Çeviri)
Homarus spp. are economically valuable species around the world. While catches of Homarus americanus has been steadily increasing over the years, Homarus gammarus landings have remained low for a number of years. Therefore, interest in aquaculture developments for these species includes increased production of adults to meet consumer demand and production of juveniles for re-stocking of natural stocks. Since feeding is one of the most important factors for successful aquaculture production, in this study, feeding experiments conducted in these species for the last 25 years were examined. Published studies indicate the need for artificial feed, which has stable quality and it is accessible, sustainable, cost effective, easy to use and meets the nutritional requirements of these species. Furthermore, while there are promising results published, there is still a need to fully understand the nutritional requirements for each of the life stages. Lobsters have three general life stages, which are, larval, juvenile and adult. Especially the larval stages are very critical in terms of survival rate. Apart from feed, individual rearing system requirements is another necessity due to their cannibalistic nature. Although individual rearing systems are available for small scale production, systems that allow for larger production are still missing. On the other hand, adults can be kept in facilities for a number of weeks or even months before they are sold. In this case, it is important to increase welfare and promote the growth of the animals while at this stage survival is not normally an issue. In this study, after careful evaluation of the research published, strenghts, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of production practises and feeding studies that have been done until today have been evaluated and discussed in order to elucidate future directions in the production of Homarus spp.
