Özet

Bu tezde, VIII. Michael Palaiologos tarafından tahtlarının gasp edilmesinden sonra, İznik yöneticilerinin isimleri ve hatıralarının bir muhalefet ve eleştiri aracı olarak kullanımı incelenmektedir. Bu tez taht gaspını takiben Laskarid hatırasına dayanan yeni bir eleştirel söylemin ortaya çıktığını iddia etmektedir. Taht gaspından sonra devrik hanedanlığın ismi kullanılarak meydana gelen olaylar ve reaksiyonlar incelenerek bu argüman desteklenmektedir. İncelenecek olaylar arasında iktidardaki hanedana yönelik komplo girişimleri ve isyanlar ile Laskarid destekçisi kişilere kutsallık atfedilmesi gibi sosyal ve dini tepkiler yer almaktadır. Buna ek olarak, Laskarid hafızasının dönemin muhalif ideolojisindeki etkisine dair daha geniş bir imaja sahip olmak adına kaiserkritik'in bu dönemdeki yeni kalıpları analiz edilecektir. Son olaraksa Palaiologan hanedanlık üyelerinin mevcut duruma tepkisini görebilmek adına onların Laskarid hatırasına yaklaşımları ve tepkileriyle beraber onu nasıl özümsemeye çalıştıkları incelenecektir. Sonuç olarak bu tezin temel amacı İznik hafızasının, çöküşünden sonraki dönemde bir muhalefet aracı olarak etkisinin ne şekilde devam ettiğinin bütüncül bir resmini elde etmektir.

This thesis analyzes the use of the name and memory of the Nicaean rule as a means of opposition and criticism after the usurpation of the throne by Michael VIII Palaiologos. The thesis claims that following the usurpation of the throne a new critical discourse emerged based on the memory of the Laskarids. The events and reactions after the usurpation that emerged in the name of the deposed dynasty will be examined to support this argument. Among the things that will be analyzed, there are plots and revolts against the ruling dynasty as well as socioreligious reactions like the sanctification of Laskarid figures. Moreover, the new patterns of kaiserkritik will be analyzed to have a broader image of the impact of Laskarid memory in the oppositional ideology of the time period. Finally, the Palaiologan reaction to the current situation will be examined by analyzing their reaction and approach to the memory of Laskarids and how they tried to absorb it. Consequently, the main goal of this thesis is to achieve a complete image of the impact of Nicaean memory as an oppositional tool in the following period to its deposition.
