ce YAZMA DERSİNDE EDEBİ METİNLERİN KULLANIMI Eke, Arzu Yüksek Lisans, İngilizce Eğitimi Bölümü Tez Yöneticisi: Prof. Dr. Sabri Koç Eylül 1997, 86 sayfa Bu çalışma edebi metinler kullanımının O.D.T.Ü. 1. sınıf öğrencilerinin Modern Diller Bölümü tarafından hazırlanan İngilizce 102 Okuma ve Yazma Becerilerini Geliştirme II kursunda yazma becerileri üzerine etkisini araştırmayı amaçlıyor. Bu amacın gerçekleştirilmesi için, iki farklı uzmanlık alanından - İnşaat ve Elektirik Mühendisliği - İngilizce 101 kurşundaki yeterlik düzeyleri ve ön sınama notları gibi birtakım kriterler gözönüne alınarak, iki grup öğrenci seçildi. Dönem boyunca İnşaat Mühendisliği sınıfındaki 22 öğrenci 4 tane kısa hikaye okuyup yazma pratiği yaptığı halde Elektrik Mühendisliği sınıfındaki diğer 22 öğrenci mevcut müfredatı takip etti. Öğrenci denemeleri ve anket gibi çeşitli veri toplama metodlarıyla ulaşılan sonuçlar İnşaat Mühendisliği öğrencilerinin deneme yazılarındaorganizasyon ve içerik bakımından dikkate değer bir ilerleme kaydettiğini belgeliyor. Ayrıca, anket sonuçları da öğrencilerin bu deneyimden hoşlandıklarını gösteriyor..

ABSTRACT READING EXPRESSIVE TEXTS IN THE WRITING CLASS Eke, Arzu M.A., Department of English Languages Education Supervisor: Prof.Dr.Sabri Koç September 1997, 86 pages The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of using expressive reading materials on the development of METU freshman students' writing skills in the Eng 102 Course (Development of Reading and Writing Skills II), which is designed by the Modern Languages Department. To realize this aim, two groups of students from two different fields of specialization, namely the Civil Engineering field and the Electrical Engineering field, were selected by taking into consideration several criteria like their being equal to each other in terms of their proficiency levels in the Eng 101 course and their pretest grades. Throughout the semester, the 22 students in the Civil Engineering class read and practised writing on 4 short stories while the other 22 students in the Electrical Engineering class followed the present iiisyllabus. By means of various methods the of data collection such as the student essays and a questionnaire, it has been found that the Civil Engineering students manifested a remarkable progress in their essays as regards organization and content. Also, the results of the questionnaire show that these students liked this experience.
