ABSTRACK The purpose of this study was to evalwate police public relations from the angle of adult education. For this purpose, all the police-publice relations activities of General Directorate of Security (GDS) between 1990-1995 have been examined. On the other hand, the image of the police in USA and England in wales has been searched and as a way of prevention of crime through public intervention, commenity policing has been examined birefly after viewing its historical process. İn the frame of activities for getting public support, brochure-as it is one of the vehicles for presenting police-public relations has been examined according to its characteristic and evaluated from informal educational dimension. Furthermore, brochurs publiched by GDS of Turkey have been compared to their like in USA and England. As a result, GDS's brochures have been found insufficient especially in terms of property and public safety. s. According to findings obtained from our research; -Insufficiency of public relations activities of GDS, -Insufficiency of training and education in terms of public relation for personel, -Poor police image and related to this, failing public support, -Paitialing of the police in incidents, -Lack of confidence in police by 46 % of the people questioned, -Lack of information for property and public safety and lack of brochures in terms of informal education, - On the contrary, the great importance of adult education through brochures in USA and England have been found. 21k
