Capitalism, which began to develop in Europe in the 16th century, created large capital accumulations by the 19th century. The application of capitalist accumulation to industry has given rise to the Industrial Revolution. From this period onwards, capitalism took the form of industrial capitalism and spread to all over the world through trade and under the influence of the countries that maintained the traditional production structure, transformed the existing structures of these countries. In this system, while the industrialized countries became the central countries, the countries that maintained their traditional structure took their place as the neighboring countries. Trade and market structures, crafts, state structure of the Ottoman Empire were transformed with the expansion of trade with Europe and the Ottoman Empire joined this economic system as a neighboring country. Increasing trade relations with Europe led the Ottoman Empire, which was an agricultural country, to acquire identity as a country that supplied raw materials to the industries of the centralized industrialized countries and purchased goods in return. In this process, the production and marketing structures of the Ottoman cities have also undergone significant changes. In this period, cotton, which is the industrial plant that makes countries dependent on each other at global level, enabled Adana to develop as a major raw material producer for the textile industry of industrialized countries in the 19th century. In the second half of the 19th century, commodity production in Adana increased for the world markets, necessitating the cleaning and baling of cotton in better conditions in the region. In this direction, increasing agricultural production revived the industrial sector. In this process, the industrialization activities of Adana, the effects of the world economy, the dynamics of the Ottoman Empire were tried to be explained within the framework of the region's own internal dynamics.
