Özet

VII ÖZET Tarihi kentlerin belki de en önemli sorunlarından biri nitelikli doku kaybıdır. Bu doktora çalışmasında tarihi çevre içinde binaların yeniden kullanımı ve bölgenin kente yeniden katılımı ele alınarak, bu soruna Türkiye koşullarında nasıl bir çözüm sağlanabileceği irdelenmek istendi. Çalışma alanı olarak bu soruna tipik bir örnek oluşturan Galata seçilmiştir. Bu bölgede yapılacak uygulanabilir nitelikli bir koruma - yenileme - yeniden kullanım programı, bu çok özel bölgenin sorunlarını çözmekten başka, Türkiye'de çokça rastlanan benzer sorunlara sahip diğer kentsel sit alanlarının da sorunlarının çözümüne bir örnek oluşturabilir. Bu tezde, kentsel gelişim ve değişimin tarihsel dokuyu nasıl etkilediği irdelenerek, bu değişime yaklaşımların evrimi ele alınacak, başarılı bölgesel koruma örnekleri olan Bologna ve Kreuzberg'de izlenmiş olan yöntemler ve koruma-yeniden canlandırma süreçleri incelenerek, seçmiş olduğumuz çalışma bölgesinde uygulanabilecek, ülke koşullarına uygun bir yöntem saptanmasına çalışılmıştır.

VIII SUMMARY The destruction of historical urban tissue is one of the most important problems in historical towns. In this thesis, the adaptive reuse of buildings in historical background and the regeneration of the area with the town has been chosen as the research topic, and it is aimed that to find out a solution for the problem in the conditions of Turkey. Galata has been chosen as the case study area, as it is a typical example. A qualified conservation - regeneration - reuse programme to be prepared for the area, would not only bring a solution to the problems specific to the area, but also become an example for the historical sites with problems of same sort. In this thesis, it is researched how urban development and change effected the historical tissue, and the development of the approaches to these changes, by examining the methods followed and the process of conservation-revitalization in the two successful examples of regenerating historical urban areas, Bologna and Kreuzberg, it is attempted to put forward a proper method to be applied to the case study area, and also suitable to the conditions of Turkey.
