ABSTRACT: The statuettes which forms the subject of this thesis, reflects the multi- deities Hittite religion in the light of the written documents. In Anatolian art, these statuettes were began to be made since the last quarter of the III. Millenium. Horoztepel ve Hasanoğlan^ statuettes are the best examples of this art. Although it is not clearly known which deities they represent, but the goddess with her baby in her arms, undoubtedly represent the mother goddess. Also at the end of the Illrd Millenium, this conception survived in the“Lead Figurines”. After the first quarter of the Ilnd Millenium, these lead figurines represent not only the god himself but different deities or the whole divine family. This shows that in this age multi-deities religous conception widespreaded. This can also be traced in the cylinder seal impressions which were influence by the Mesopotamian art, found in the Ilnd level of Kanish Karum. As its shown in the text, the uniformity in style of these statutuettes began in the Old Hittite Kingdom Period and continues till the collapse of Hittite Empire. These statuettes were used in two different ways. Some of them were used as pandantif with the help of the ring at the back of the statuette. The others may attached to another object. In the temple inventory text it is mentioned that these statuettes were kept in the temples. These In Ozgüç, T.-Akok, M. (1958), s.17, 46-47, levJf. 2 Bittel, K. (1976), fig.30-31. 90statuettes were also used as votives. It is difficult to identify these statuettes, because of the lack of their attributes. 91
