SUMMARY In the last two decades, acquisitions increased substantially in the world. Since hostile takeovers have become common in 1970's, this subject attracted great attention and began to be discussed. The takeover boom of the 1980's was important in the financial markets and industry. In establishing European Union, several merger and acquisitions were seen in Europe. Foreign institutions merged with or acquired European corporations and banks to get the share in European single market. Mergers and acquisitions are also important for Turkey which is in the process of entering into the Customs Union and European Union. Several aspects of the corporate acquisitions are provided in this study. It has been tried to be given the general evalution of the acquisitions. Since the regulations on this issue are not sufficient, foreign regulations are given to provide a framework for potential regulations in Turkey. Existing regulations do not cover all aspects to protect the investors. Hence, some proposals are given with the aim of covering this issue. Manipulation has been seen often when a corporation made a bid to acquire other corporation. Hence, protecting investors has become important. It is believed that this subject will be given more importance in Turkey which is in the process of entering into European Union. 134
