SUMMARY This thesis is about one of the most interesting topic of our new age, information age, the Decision Support Systems. We look at to this topic from the view of the organization's perspective. The organizational support of Decision Support Systems to the decision makers in the organization is explained. A new Decision Support System is implemented, the Tender Decision Support System. The paperwork consists of six separate chapters. The first chapter is the introduction chapter. We explained the background of the Decision Support Systems and the content of this paperwork in this chapter. In the second chapter, the main concepts related with this topic are given. These are the organization and management, data, information, human as decision maker and decision making. In the third chapter, the Computer Based Information Systems are explained. These are Data Processing Systems, Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Office Automation and Expert Systems. At the end of this chapter, the relation of DSS with the other systems are defined. In the fourth chapter, the main topic, Decision Support Systems are explained. DSS history, the need for DSS, DSS characteristics, decision support of DSS, DSS types, DSS architectures, DSS users, DSS development methods, DSS benefits to organizations and the future of DSS are discussed. In the fifth chapter, a DSS application is developed. The subject of the DSS is Tender Support. The two view of tender topic is analyzed and an integrated design is made. At last, in the last chapter, the results and a general evaluation about the topic and the thesis is given. 83
