SUMMARY Anton Pavlovich Chekhov is a Russian dramatist and writer. These are his literary styles; short stories and lyric dramas. While writing his short stories, he always bearsin mind three main peculiarities; esence, activities and actions of his works. The auther never uses unnecessary words, discption, and charakter. He is different from many writers because he wants his readers to think about the events. His special feature among many writes, is his point of view for relations between man and woman, and for women. The queston which is asked for my work is that: What are the women's emotional relations in Chekhov Work's? After preliminary studying, the result shows that people's pride and especially women's homour is hurt by meanness. This study contains Chekov's 28 works which take the relations of man and womam as a basis and which show the meanness that hurts women's pride. But it gives some short explanation for other works when it's necessary. The study starts with the position of the historical and cultural environment Chekhov lived. In 2nd. part, the relations of man and woman are introduced in the position of the traditional culture history. The approach to women like C.Bronte, Flaubert, T.Fontane, İbsen is examined in this part. In 19 th Century's Russia, Pushkin, Lermontov and the Turgenyev and the Tolstoy never lose their hopes for the revival in the women's soul and they reflect in their works. In 3rd part of the study, marriage and love relations in the stories which Chekhov wrote between 1880 and 1890 are examined. The Author sometimes writes contrasting ideas and brings an argument, and sometes takes sides of the women. Chekhov's basic problem is about in the connection between people. According to him,connection cam become true when there is love. Love carries obsessions of sexsuality as much as it is a strength that can turn towards the beauties out itself. Chekhov doesn't forget that love carries a special feature like this, but he thinks it isn't limited by sexuality. İt is seen that he interprets the concepts of love and affeition in his stories, affection in his stories, which belong' to that part of time, in Tolstoy's 'sermons" light.In his stories which he wrote after his journey to Sahalin Island, affection, love and marriage, themes are also seen as psycholojic interpretation. Longing for liberty in woman is taken up, too. Chekhov doesn't give advise in his stories. He only tries to explain how difficult it to be human being, to love, and to be loved. T.G.
