Özet
ÖZET Toplumsal Belgeci Fotoğraf ve Fikret Otyam örneği adlı bu çalışma, belgesel fotoğrafın bir alt grubu olan toplumsal belgeci fotoğrafı tanımlama ve bu anlayış çerçevesinde bir toplumsal belgeci fotoğrafçı olarak Fikret Otyam'ın fotoğraf tavrını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Belgesel fotoğraf diye adlandırılan anlayışla toplumsal belgeci fotoğraf anlayışı arasındaki farkların vurgulanabilmesi için birinci bölümde belgesel fotoğraf, tanım ve tarihçesi ile incelenip, toplumsal belgeci yaklaşımın gerçeklik ve toplumsal reform hareketleri ile ilişkisi ele alınmıştır. Toplumsal belgeci fotoğrafın en etkin kullanıldığı araçlardan resimli haber dergilerinin gelişim süreci ve fotoğrafın bu mecralarda kullanım biçimi ile fotoğrafçılık teknolojisi ile olan ilişkisi de bu bölümde ele alınmış; bilgilendirme ve motive edici fonksiyonu yanısıra, içerdiği plastik değerler de incelenmiştir. İkinci bölümde toplumsal belgeci fotoğraf anlayışının önemli tarihsel örnekleri ele alınarak, konunun somut örneklerle incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. İlgili her fotoğrafçı veya kurumdan seçilen en az bir fotoğraf, hem tarihsel, hem de estetik açıdan değerlendirilmiştir. Bu bölümde yer alan örneklerin her biri toplumsal belgeci fotoğraf alanında birer kilometre taşı olma özellikleriyle seçilmiştir. Bu bölümde ayrıca günümüz elektronik bilgi toplumunda genelde fotoğrafın, özelde toplumsal belgeci fotoğraf tavrının değişen niteliği, etkinliği ele alınırken; toplumsal belgeci fotoğraf tavrının sürdürülmesinde önemli işlevler üstlenen gönüllü kuruluşların çabalarına da yer verilmiştir. Ülkemizden örnek bir toplumsal belgeci fotoğrafçı, Fikret Otyam'ın incelendiği üçüncü bölümde, Otyam'ın neden toplumsal belgeci fotoğrafçı olarak nitelendirilmesi gerektiği, yaşamından ve fotoğrafından örneklerle aktarılmakta; somut olarak hangi toplumsal katkıları yaptığı ele alınmakta; Otyam'ın hümanizması ile fotoğraf tavrı arasındaki ilişkiler incelenmektedir.

SUMMARY This study which is entitled“Social Documentary Photography and the Case of Fikret Otyam”aims to define social documentary photography, which is considered as a sub-group of documentary tradition, and to evaluate the work of Turkish social documentary photographer Fikret Otyam. In order to be able to reach a working definition of social documentary photography, while documentary photography in general is taken up in section one and studied in terms of its definition and short history; the relationship between reality and social documentary photography and the effects of social reform movements are also analysed in historical perspective. The development process of illustrated weekly magazines as one of the most efficient outlets of social documentary photographs and the photo essay are also undertaken in this section along with plastic elements and the evaluation of technological improvements. With a view to give a concrete understanding of social documentary approach, some selected milestones from the history of photography are analysed, both historically and aesthetically, in the second section, reading at least one sample photograph of the concerned photographer and/or institution. The last part of this section deals with the effects on photography in general and social documentary photography in particular, of the developments, in the last decades, in the microelectronic technology, together with the evaluation of the important work of several photographic funds. The last section, where the work of Fikret Otyam is evaluated as a case study, is devoted to the study of Fikret Otyam's photography. The question why he should be considered as an important social documentary photographer is analysed throughly by giving concrete examples of his contribution to his people and country through photography.
