Özet
Bu araştırma, ortaokul öğrencilerinin sosyal medya sitelerini eğitsel kullanım amaçlarının değerlendirilmesini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma tarama modeli olarak tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2015-2016 Eğitim-Öğretim Yılı İstanbul ili Milli Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı biri özel biri devlet okulunda öğrenim gören 300 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcıların 184'ü kız öğrenci ve 116'sı erkek öğrencidir. Öğrencilerin demografik bilgilerini elde etmek için kişisel bilgi formu uygulanmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin demografik bilgilerini belirlemek için 11 maddelik sorudan oluşan bir kişisel bilgi formu kullanılmıştır. Bu soruların içerisinde araştırmaya katılan kişilerin, okul türü, cinsiyeti ve sosyal medyayı kullanma sıklıkları gibi değişkenler yer almaktadır. Araştırmada kullanılan“Sosyal medya eğitsel kullanım ölçeği”Mazman (2009) tarafından geliştirilmiştir. 11 maddeden oluşan ölçek 5'li likert türünde olup Cronbach Alpha katsayısı ,793 olarak hesaplanmıştır.“Sosyal medya sitelerini kullanım amacı ölçeği”ise Karal ve Kokoç (2010) tarafından geliştirilmiştir. 12 maddeden oluşan ve 5'li likert türünde olan ölçeğin Cronbach Alfa katsayısı ,830 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, sosyal medya sitelerini kullanım amacına yönelik kız öğrencilerin puanının erkek öğrenci puanına göre daha yüksek olduğu ancak iki grup arasında anlamlı bir fark olmadığı görülmektedir. Sosyal medya sitelerini kullanım amacına yönelik okul türüne göre özel okul puanının devlet okulu puanına göre daha yüksek olduğu, sınıf düzeyleri arasında anlamlı bir fark olmadığı tespit edilmiştir.

This research was conducted to examine the evaluation of educational use of social media sites by junior high school students The research has been designed as a survey model. The study group of the research comprises 300 students who receive education in two different schools in Istanbul, one private and one public school, which both report to the Ministry of National Education, in the Academic Year 2015-2016. The participants are composed of 184 female and 116 male students. Personal information form has been used to obtain demographic information about the students. The personal information form applied to find out the demographic information about the students who participated in the study comprised 11 questions. The questions addressed variables such as the gender of the student who participated in the study, the type of school where they study and how often they use the social media.“The scale for educational use of social networks”was developed by Mazman (2009). It is a likert scale that comprises 11 items and Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the scale has been calculated as ,793.“The scale for usage purposes of social network sites”was developed by Karal and Kokoç (2010). It is a five-point likert scale that comprises 12 items and the Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the scale has been calculated as ,830. As a result, it has been found out that the score of female students is higher than that of male students in terms of usage purposes of social network sites; however, there is not any significant difference between two groups. It has been established that the score of private schools is higher than that of public schools in terms of usage purposes of social network sites; however, there is not any significant difference between grade levels.
