Özet
Bu araştırma, ortaokul altıncı sınıf matematik dersinin alan ölçme ve çember konularında şarkılarla yapılan öğretimin, akademik başarı ve kalıcılığa etkisini belirlemek amacıyla 2014–2015 eğitim öğretim yılında, Bolu ilindeki bir ortaokulun 47 altıncı sınıf öğrencisiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma bir karma yöntem araştırmasıdır ve açıklayıcı desende tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel boyutundaki verilerin toplanabilmesi için eşitlenmemiş kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra nitel verilerin toplanmasında, deney grubu öğrencilerinin uygulamaya ait görüşlerini belirlemek için standartlaştırılmış açık uçlu görüşme yöntemine başvurulmuştur. Veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen 36 soruluk başarı testi, ön test, son test ve kalıcılık testi olarak kullanılmıştır. 5 hafta süren deneysel uygulama sürecinde deney grubuna 6. sınıf matematik dersi programında bulunan alan ölçme ve çember alt öğrenme alanlarına yönelik söz ve müziği araştırmacı tarafından yazılan şarkılar eşliğinde öğretim yapılmıştır. Kontrol grubu ise mevcut programdaki etkinliklerle öğrenim görmüştür. Araştırma kapsamında elde edilen nicel veriler SPSS paket programı yardımıyla analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda şarkılarla yapılan öğretimin, mevcut programdaki etkinliklerle yapılan uygulamaya göre hem akademik başarı hem de kalıcılık sağlama konusunda daha etkili olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

This study was conducted with 47 sixth grade students in a public middle school during 2014-2015 spring semester with the aim of investigating the effects of instruction which was enriched by songs on sixth grade students' achievement and retention of this achievement related to measurement and circle learning subjects. The study is a mixed methods research and it is designed in explanatory pattern. In order to collect the quantitative data nonequivalent control group was used. Also, in the collection of qualitative data, standardized open ended interview method was applied in order to determine the views of the experimental group of students about the study. An achievement test developed by the researcher was used as the data collection instrument. The test was consisted of 36 open-ended questions related to the measurement and circle subjects. The same test was used as pretest, posttest and retention test. During the 5 weeks of experimental implementation process lessons of the experimental group were taught by the researcher through the middle school mathematics textbook activities which were enriched with songs. Songs were written and melodized by the researcher prior to the study. The control group was instructed based on merely the middle school mathematics textbook activities by the first researcher. The qualitative data collected from the study was analyzed by SPSS program. Findings revealed that the mathematics instruction which was enriched by songs has a significant effect on sixth grade students' academic achievement and retention of this achievement related to measurement and circle learning areas.
