Özet (Çeviri)
Children have a variety of learning methods. One of these methods can be expressed question-asking and obtaining information from a third person. Main aim of this study was to explore children's natural question-asking behaviours. Children have some difficulties while they are asking questions. Therefore, we have examined areas of difficulty for children with different test questions. The present study tried to reveal that the differences of the direct questions which are directly asked from children and the endorse questions which are based on the make a decision between two different options for asking question. In addition, the study investigated how third party, which asked a question on behalf of the child, helps to children while they are asking question. Therefore, two different conditions were compared; you and birdie. Ninety-eight nursery children aged 3, 4 and 5 participated. The present study was conducted in Turkey. In this study, four different story books were used which includes two different characters and the same third party (birdie). One of the characters looks in the target box and the other one does not look. If a child wanted to learn what is in the box, he/she would select the character for asking question to find out the correct answer. In this study, in order to understand children's question asking behaviour, children can directly ask questions to the character in you condition or they can ask questions to the characters via Birdie for seeking out what it is in the target box in birdie condition. In addition, for endorse style questions; children were given two different options from the characters of the story books, which one of them has already seen inside of the target box. It is expected to confirm the correct answer from children. Each age group children were asked both direct asking question and endorse question. According to results children's performance have shown increasing in 'you' condition among the age. However, in 'birdie' condition has not significant differences. Additionally, children have done significantly better on 'ask' than 'endorse' questions on birdie condition. There is no significant difference between total 'ask' score and total 'endorse' score on you condition. Merely, direct ask questions have better results on 'you' condition again. In conclusion, children were better in ask question than endorse question and children could achieve you condition better than birdie. This mean is third party has not significant role in children's answers. The results were not given the expected conclusion however this present study will lead to encourage to investigate children's natural question asking behaviours.
