This study aimed to consider Child Sexual Abuse in terms of the Stroop Test phenomena and to investigate the issue to see whether the Stroop interference effect in subjects reporting abuse experiences would be observed or not. In other words, the main goal was to investigate whether the Stroop test, that has been employed with many clinical samples, but not in Child Sexual Abuse survivors to date, would discriminate between abused and D:0n-abused subjects. Another important goal of the study was to examine a priming effect, that is, a) whether particular abusive activities would have an effect on the latency of naming the color of the words pertaining to possible perpetrators, or b) whether the abusive activity words would have an emotional effect generalizing to all conditions regardless of any contexual specificity. To assess this, 202 students studying in BogaziC;i University were tested by using nine modified Stroop tests developed by the author and given out questionaires to assess possible Child Sexual Abuse in their history. Findings suggested that in the group of sexually abused subjects, on the Stroop card including the words related with their concerns which are sexual or abusive in nature, the significant interference effect was observed, which is a finding consistent with Stroop test and various psychopathologies literature. But, introducing the priming procedure to the Stroop test did not prove to help to differentiate intrafamilial and extrafamilial sexual abuse reliably in the stroop procedure that is used in this study.
