This study titled“People's Beliefs in Çayeli and Environs and Their Effects on the Individual”has been carried out as an A. M thesis in the field of psychology of religion. It is composed of three chapters. The First one deals with the socio- cultural structure of Çayeli region in the course of history and a general view on the beliefs of local people. The differences between primary motives and belief in several communities are added to this chapter with the point of view of islam in terms of such beliefs. The Second Chapter is concerned with the regional beliefs in Çayeli area and the influence of them on people. This chapter also attempts to investigate the factors which affect people in their adaptation of such local motives of belief. This chapter also covers an evaluation of the answers given to the guestionaire by some chosen subjects. In the Third and last Chapter the data obtained through the guestionaire are compared and contrasted to find out to what extent the native people are affected by such beliefs.
