ABSTRACT DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE INTER-PROVINCIAL MIGRATION: GAP REGION, 1975-80 AND 1980-85 ARIKAN, Beyhan M.S. in Regional Planning Supervisor: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ayşe GEDİK February, 1994, 156 pages The main purpose of this study is to carry out descriptive analysis of the inter-provincial migration to/from the Southeastern Anatolia region. During the implementation stages of the multi-sectoral regional development project, as a consequence of physical investments and socio-economic transformations, some changes concerning the population movements in the region will be realized. Although, the study of the net migration rates covers the period betvveen 1965 and 1985, due to availability of data, in, out, and gross migration are analyzed for 1975-80 and 1980-85 periods. These two five-year periods are analyzed in more detail and includes the study of the origin and destination of migrants, and the changes in 1980-85 period are emphasized. Based on our descriptive analysis, numerous hypotheses are developed and discussed. The results of this study indicate that, inter- provincial migration to/from the region is significantly affected by GAP project, in 1980-85 period. iii
