ABSTRACT The aim of this thesis is to examine different methods of teaching literature in EFL classes in general, and how to teach a short, story in particular through the stylistic approach. The thesis consists of five chapters: the first chapter gives the background of the study as well as its aim and scope. The second chapter reviews methods of teaching literature and compares them. The third chapter deals with stylistics. Since the aim of this thesis is to show how to study a short story through stylistic approach, it will be beneficial to learn its background and development, and stylistic categories proposed by Leech and Short (1981) in evaluating a literary work. This chapter also discusses how to teach Hemingway's short story“In Another Country”through stylistic approach. The fourth chapter introduces Hemingway's narration, his life especially in Italy during war years and his interests for sports and hunting. Then a brief summary of the whole thesis will be given in chapter five. xx
