Özet
John Dewey'in estetik düşüncesi, deneyim kavramı üzerine bina edilir. Dewey, tamamlayıcı deneyim olan estetik deneyimi, estetik süje-estetik obje arasındaki etkileşim olarak tanımlar. Dewey, bu etkileşimde özellikle estetik süje üzerinde durur. Estetik haz ve ifade kavrayışımızda içkindir ve onu anlamla donatır. Dewey'in estetik teorisi, yaşam içinde var olan duyu nitelikleri ile ilişki kavramını birleştiren ve duyu-mana ile anlamlanan ifade temelli bir teoridir. Estetik objenin, hem somut hem de soyut yönü vardır ve estetik obje, form-töz, araç-konu ve ritim-simetri gibi birtakım tabakalardan oluşur. Sanatın ifade edilmesinin yolu duygularla dile getirilmesidir. Ayrıca hayal gücü de ifade edimi için önemli bir güçtür. Estetik deneyimin ikinci unsuru estetik süjedir. Estetik süje sanatçı, eleştirmen, estetik teorisyen ve izleyici-seyirci olarak değerlendirilir. Estetik algılama, haz, beğeni, değer ve yargı estetik süjenin estetik obje üzerine yaptığı nitelendirmelerdir. Sanat, insanın katkısı sonucunda gerçekleştirilen bir etkinliktir. Bu nedenle, sanata insanın yaşadığı toplum, uygarlık, kültür, dil, tarih ve ekonominin etkisi vardır.

John Dewey?s thought on aesthetics in based upon the concept, experience. He describes aesthetic experience as the interaction between aesthetic subject and aesthetic object and focuses on the aesthetic subject in this interaction. Aesthetic pleasure and expression are intrinsic to our perception of the world and make it meaningful. Aesthetic experience is founded in our sensually mediated, inter-subjective relationship with the world. Aesthetic object has both concrete and abstract aspects, and consist of such layers as form-substance, means-subject-matter, rhythm-symmetry, etc. Art can be expressed through feelings and imagination. Artist, critic, theorist and audience can be considered as aesthetic subject. Aesthetic perception, pleasure, taste, value, judgement are qualities that aesthetic subject attributes to aesthetic object. Art is the activity of human beings. Therefore society, civilization, culture, language, history, and economy influence art.
