Özet

Toplumlararası iletişimin en üst düzeye çıktığı bilgi ve iletişim çağında, yabancı dil bilmenin önemi yadsınamaz bir gerçekliğe dönüşmüştür. Bu gerçeklik ekseninde, eğitim bütçesinden yabancı dil öğretimine ayrılan pay ve bireylerin yabancı dil öğrenme çabaları, son yıllarda ciddi bir seviyeye ulaşmıştır. Ancak yabancı dil öğretiminde yaşanan bir takım aksaklıklar ve bireylerin dil öğrenme konusunda yaşadığı başarısızlıklar, yeni ve etkili bir çözüm bulma arayışlarını da beraberinde getirmiştir.Bu araştırmanın amacı mentorluk hizmetinin, Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Yüksekokulu'nda okuyan öğrencilerin akademik başarıları, öz yeterlik algıları ve kaynakları yönetme stratejileri üzerindeki etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmada öntest-sontest kontrol grup modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Yüksek Okulu Temel İngilizce Bölümü C kurunda öğrenim gören, 20'si deney, 22'si kontrol grubunda yer alan 42 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi Yabancı Diller Yüksek Okulu Temel İngilizce Bölümü İngilizce yeterlik sınavından elde edilen puanlar ile Pintrich ve diğerleri (1991) tarafından geliştirilen, Altun ve Erden (2006) tarafından Türkçe'ye uyarlanan ?Öğrenmede Motive Edici Stratejiler Ölçeği?nin, ?Öz Yeterlik Algısı? alt boyutu ve ?Kaynakları Yönetme Stratejileri? boyutu kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama araçları denel işlem öncesi ve sonrasında her iki gruba da uygulanmış ve toplanan verilerin analizinde kovaryans istatistik tekniği kullanılmıştır. Denel işlem süresince deney grubuna yabancı dil öğretimine ek olarak mentorluk hizmeti verilmiş, kontrol grubuna ise mentorluk hizmeti verilmemiştir. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular, mentorluk hizmetinin, öğrencilerin kaynakları yönetme stratejilerinde olumlu bir etki oluşturduğunu, ancak akademik başarıları ve öz yeterlik algıları üzerinde olumlu bir etki oluşturmadığını ortaya koymuştur.

The significance of knowing a foreign language has become a stubborn fact especially since the beginning of the Information Era in which intercommunal communication has peaked. In this context, the amount of money allocated to foreign language teaching from the budget of education and the efforts of individuals to learn a foreign language have reached the ultimate level. However, the troubles encountered in foreign language teaching and the failures experienced by the individuals have brought about the pursuit of finding a new and an effective solution.The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the mentoring service on the academic achievements, self efficacy perceptions and resource management strategies of the students attending Yıldız Technical University School of Foreign Languages. Pre-test post-test control group experimental research design was used. The research work group consists of 42 students attending Yıldız Technical University School of Foreign Languages Basic English Department Class C, 20 of whom make up the Experimental and 22 of whom make up the Control Group. As data collection tools, Yıldız Technical University School of Foreign Languages Basic English Department English proficiency test success grades were used as well as ?Self Efficacy Perception? sub-dimension and ?Resource Management Strategies? dimension of ?Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSQL)? developed by Pintrich et. al (1991) and adapted to Turkish by Altun and Erden (2006). Data collection tools were applied to both groups before and after the experiment and the results were analyzed via the analysis of covariance. During the experiment, the experimental group was provided with the mentoring service in addition to foreign language instruction whereas the control group was not provided with the mentoring service. The findings of the study indicated that the mentoring service has a significant effect on resource management strategies of the students; however, it has no significant effect on their academic achievements and self efficacy perceptions.
