SUMMARY The examination of the role of trade in the development of a country is of vital importance. Some of many studies in the literature on this subject support import substituting industrilization hypothesis, whereas some of them support export led growth hypothesis. In 1980, Turkey changed its development strategy from import substitution to export led growth with the application of an extensive stabilization program. In this study, I have tried to show this structural change by using input- output technique. The total change in output and value added in seventeen sectors is expressed as a function of four factors: i.changes in domestic demand iixhanges in import volume iii.changes in export volume iv.changes in technology matrix. I have found out that before 1980 the domestic demand was the major factor that affected the output growth and after 1980, export volume gain a major importance. Î&2SMK
