SUMMARY The novel which is a kind of literature and achieved deepness on the individual life in the Western world was born in our country by the works entering upon social analyses and aiming at enlightening social problems. The subject of the novels which have been principally taking the society into consideration, not the individual is focused on the period beginnig with Abdülhamit II and extending to the republican era.“Üç Istanbul ”is telling the political and intellectual movements of this period and the general situation which the society was then in. This novel whose writer quoted his thoughts with detailed observations and supported it with historical events and authentic characters has got an important place among the novels the subject of which is the social structure of that period. This work has been composed of two main parts. In the first part the theoretical frame of the literature of sociology which developed on the basis of the general sociology concepts has been tried to determine. As for the second part,the subject has been reduced to the private one and how the social change was reflected in“Üç Istanbul”has been tried to be examined.
