Instructional materials have a very important role in instruction. Instructional materials can be used to reach the aims of learning. They have capacities to facilitate learning, to provide permanent learning in a short time, to organize the subject, to give oppurtunities for students to practice what they had learnt and to reflect curriculum to classroom environment. Instructional materials can provide effective and efficient learning only when they are used in accordance with the nature and philosophy of curriculum. This study has two aims; to develop ?Teacher Guided Book?, ?Students? Course Book? and ?Students? Work Book? materials for Primary School 8th grade students on the unit of ?Electricity in Our Life? and to assess these materials? effectiveness. This study was carried out in second term of 2006- 2007 instructional year in Hasan Ali Yücel Primary School in Trabzon. Pre-experimental design was used as a research method. The sample of this study included 23 8th grade students. ?Electricity in Our Life Concept Test? was applied to the sample before and after the study. The researcher developed two rubrics for assesing posters and project presentations prepared by students. More over interviews were carried out with students and the teacher to receive their opinions on the application and effectiveness of the materials. It was determined that the materials prepared by using the new approaches provided permanent learning. And students? interests were quite high because the material gave more oppurtunity to students to use laboratory more than before. Universities and National Ministery of Education should work together to overcome the shortcoming about the new learning teaching aproaches and materials prepared according to new approaches.
