Özet (Çeviri)
After the collapse of the Hittite Empire in the beginng of twelfth Century B.C. by Aegean migrations, Phrygians appeared on Anatolian plateu as a politica power. Historical documents prove that these people were relatives of Mushkians who had been seen along Assyrian border during the mid 12tn Century B.C. It appears that these two nations then united to form an independent state in the Central Anatolia in the 9tn Century B.C. We observe two different traditional styles of in painting pottery in the area where Phrygians ruled. The ones found in Halys Bend and in the southern part are known“East Phrygian”, while those found in the western region are called“West Phrygian”. Both of these pieces of pottery have been proved to belong to Phrygian although there are some distinctive features in style of painting and especially in animal figures. The main reason for differences stems from the fact that several ethnic groups followed their own cultural heritage and the regional choices in design and technique. Monochrome ceramic had been popular for a long time in Phrygia untill the appearance of painted pottery, which was rather developed in technique. This undoubtedly suggests the influence of foreign cultures on them. In this respect, the Northern Syrian arts greatly contributed on the formation of Phrygian civilization. The Phrygian arts developed by the new techniques borrowed from the Near Eastern cultures and reached an advance level to affect the Greeks in the 8tn Century. However, this powerful civilizations of Anatolia were collapsed by the Kimmerian invasions in the early 7tn Century B.C. and Phrygians were not to become an independent nation again. The Anatolian arts lost their originality and from then would always be under the influence of İonian culture, yet some slight traces of early period could still be seen in painted pottery
