Özet (Çeviri)

SUMMARY This thesis has been concentrated on Edgar Sheffield Brightman (1884- 1953) who was the first philosopher in America to develop the personalistic position. He conceived of as a mediating position in philosophy. As such, for him it superseded James's pragmatism and Royce's absolute idealism. Any theory that makes personality the supreme philosophical principle is given the name personalism. Brightman's idealistic personalism makes the further assertion in which persons and selves are the only reality, that is. that the whole universe is a system or society of interacting selves and persons. According to Brightman, the starting point of knowledge is datum-self which includes whole conscious experiences of the individual. Brightman, made a distinction between self and person. A self is any complex unity of consciousness; a person is able to develop rationality and ideal values. In metaphysics, Brightman held that "everything that exists is in, of or for a mind on some level. The natural world is understood as an order within or as a function of the mind of God. Finite persons are created by the uncreated Person. Human persons are, therefore, centers of intrinsic value. Brightman points out the importance of values He differentiated values, ideals and norms. He works out an impressive ethical theory. In his philosophy of religion, values have a central place. The value dimension of human experience provides the evidence of a religious dimension of reality. Hence, generally, God Is the source and conserver of values. As a source of values, God, is limited by non-rational conditions within the divine nature which God's will neither created nor approved. Hence, the power of God is finite but his goodness is not.
